My Father’s War: Flying in Catalinas with the RAF 1940–1946
by Michael Inglis
In June 1942, the author’s father, Graeme ‘Twink’ Inglis, found himself flying a Special Operations’ mission to Russia and the Arctic Circle searching for the Tirpitz. He was only nineteen years of age.
In this fascinating account, his son traces his father's RAF career from that first flight through the duration of World War II and beyond. From Ireland and Scotland, to Russia, the Middle East, India and the Far East, Inglis painstakingly recounts the many long hours his father spent with RAF’s 240 Squadron and in its Catalina flying boats. Drawing on primary sources, such as his father’s log books and photograph albums, and the Squadron’s Operations Records Books, as well as secondary materials, the book is a thorough historical report. Accompanied by excellent photographs, memories from his own childhood, and other people’s recollections and accounts, it is also deeply personal.
For those who wish to honor those who risked everything for their countries in World War II or who want to learn more about this seminal time, this book is a must-read narrative.
This program will feature a Q and A with the author, book readings, and a slideshow of photographs from his father's albums.
